Alexis Lavine, AWS, NWS
“Making art is an essential and defining part of who I am
and how I live,” says Alexis Lavine.
“I see so much that intrigues me, and I am endlessly challenged
to express what I see and how I feel, in my own way, through my art.”
Alexis Lavine describes her work as Contemporary Realism. She paints exclusively with watercolor, occasionally ”en plein air,” but usually in her studio, where she constructs paintings which are thoughtfully planned, carefully drawn, and sensitively painted. With meticulous attention to design, she crafts paintings that are descriptive and yet expressive, realistic and yet abstract.
Honored as “One to Watch” by Watercolor Artist Magazine, her paintings have been published in Splash, The Artistic Touch, The Best of Watercolor, and The Palette Magazine. She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor Honor Society, and Transparent Watercolor Society of America. Her award winning paintings have been included in numerous juried and gallery exhibitions, and they hang in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, and beyond.
Alexis has taught watercolor for over three decades, from California to the Caribbean, and now in Italy! She leads her students with energy, enthusiasm, encouragement, humility, and kindness. She loves to communicate about art, and share her experience and knowledge. She will offer you a solid foundation based on ideas, technique and esthetics. She will help you to be more confident, organized, inspired, and creative, to express yourself through your art, and to learn and grow as a painter and artistic communicator!
Workshop description:
Alexis believes that superb DESIGN is essential in making art that excels. An unremarkable painting can truly be elevated into one that is evocative and engaging ... with the application of strategic, thoughtful, and dynamic design! During this workshop, we will learn the concepts of design and how to integrate them into our paintings ... to take our paintings to that next level. We will learn how to identify what we want to describe, express, and communicate – and how to manipulate our lines, shapes, values, and colors, to achieve this … in other words how to design our paintings for the best results! We’ll explore a variety of subjects, including the spectacular towns and countryside in Le Marche! And we will learn how to design evocative, watercolors – with a heightened understanding and use of design concepts ... and, as always, solid drawing, effective painting techniques, and a dose of imagination.
This workshop is suitable for all watercolor painters, as long as they have some basic familiarity with drawing, color mixing and paint handling. Alexis enjoys working with painters of ALL experience levels. This workshop would also be helpful for artists using other media, because DESIGN is so very important for all painters! Everyone is welcome!
