Zan Barrage
-Capturing the Soul of Le Marche-

Zan Barrage

Join International Watercolor Society (IWS) Master Artist Zan Barrage on an unforgettable week of watercolors and fun in Sant’Angelo in Vado, in the heart of genuine Italy in Le Marche. Picture yourself among the sights and sounds of beautiful olive groves, vineyards and centuries-old buildings. Let’s paint the winding old streets and the rolling hills all bathed in the warm and vibrant sunlight of old Italy.

My goal is to guide you to loosen up and express yourself as you paint in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere with expert instruction and support no matter what your stage of experience is with watercolors. I have been teaching watercolors for over 10 years leading classes and workshops in Canada and around the world. Watercolor is my language, and I have been painting in the medium for more than 30 years.

For the experienced artists we will focus on design and capturing the mood and sense of place. The goal will not be postcard pictures, but rather paintings that transport the viewer to a moment in time and an authentic personal expression. I will work with you individually and push you to stretch and grow and flourish with your work.

The less experienced artists will never be left out. We will work on techniques and methods to make sure we can capture what we see and bring it home with us. I will work with the full group every day and will make extra time for anyone who needs more help after our painting sessions. I want us all to come back home with a few choice images that we are proud of and that remind us of an unforgettable workshop and vacation.

While demos are an important part of my teaching method, I am a teacher and I know this is not a show about my skills. This is a workshop to bring the artists in you to the next level of growth. That will be my focus with everyone. We will work on location and in the studio depending on our daily goals and the weather.

*PLUS BONUS COMPANION PACKAGE for non-painters with Piero as your guide: opportunities to explore surrounding historical villages, horseback ride, golf, visit a Roman archaeological site, visit nearby festivals, visit the Church of the Dead, take a bell tower tour, discover sunflower fields or just drink with the locals! ****Non-Painter discount of $350.

A note from Zan

"Each day will begin with a demo focusing on techniques, design, composition, color and ideas on how to capture the essence of the location selected for the day (rain days we will work in the studio). Once the demo or lesson is done, I will be working with each artist individually to help you capture the moment in your painting. I will move from one artist to another guiding, sharing ideas, helping find solutions and making sure your painting session fulfilling and fruitful. There is never a rush. We will finish when the last artist is done and not a moment before. Piero will have plans for us for the rest of the day. Visits to interesting places, meals at authentic eateries and even shopping opportunities. We want the trip to be memorable in every way. We will strive for a good balance but will also work with everyone to make sure the trip meets everyone’s needs and balance between painting and tourism.  -Zan
